They arrested two suspects, aged 27 and 30, for possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle on Thursday, 3 October 2024. The successful operation was made possible by positive information received by the authorities, which led to swift action.
Here’s what went down: the police received intel about a hijacked vehicle and quickly sprang into action. They strategically positioned themselves along the N1 North between Kranskop and Nyl plazas, where they spotted the described vehicle at Nyl Plaza. After stopping and searching the vehicle, they confirmed it was indeed reported hijacked in October this year at Douglasdale policing area in Gauteng province.
The suspects will face justice at the Mokopane and Douglasdale Magistrates Courts. This arrest is a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the importance of timely information sharing.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the Polokwane police have made significant arrests related to stolen vehicles. Earlier this year, two male suspects were apprehended for possession of presumed stolen motor vehicles and appeared before Mankweng Magistrate’s Court. Additionally, in July, the police arrested two suspects for attempted murder and possession of a stolen vehicle, recovering five cellphones in separate operations.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is working diligently to combat vehicle theft and related crimes. Their efforts are paying off, with multiple arrests and recoveries made in recent months.
