Former Greater Giyani Municipal Manager Mkhacani Maxwell has reportedly joined the Umkhonto we Sizwe Party. Maxwell, an experienced politician from Shigalo village in Malamulele, was recently spotted with MK Party President Jacob Zuma in the Northwest Province on Heritage Day.
Although the move is not officially confirmed, Maxwell’s presence alongside Zuma and National Organizer Floyd Shivambu, also from Malamulele, suggests a departure from his longtime affiliation with the African National Congress (ANC).
Maxwell’s history in politics includes serving as Municipal Manager of the now-defunct Moutse Local Municipality before moving to Giyani, where internal challenges led to his suspension. He was also on the ANC’s national list for Parliament but failed to secure a seat in the 2024 general elections when the ruling party didn’t reach 50% of the votes.
The MK Party, founded in December 2023, has been gaining traction, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga provinces. Notable figures like Floyd Shivambu from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Papa Penny from the ANC have joined the party, indicating its growing influence.
