
n a well-coordinated effort, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Border Policing unit at Pontdrift, alongside SANPARKS Rangers, achieved a significant breakthrough in combating illegal immigration on Monday, 30 June 2025.
A Zimbabwean-registered bus was stopped along the R521 road for inspection. The driver, ignoring police instructions, attempted to flee, sparking a high-speed chase. Law enforcement successfully intercepted the vehicle along the R572 road near Dongola Ranch.
A thorough search revealed 76 undocumented Zimbabwean nationals on board, none of whom had valid passports or travel documents. The bus was escorted to the Beitbridge Port of Entry, where it was handed over to Border Management Authority (BMA) officials for further processing and investigation.
The 38-year-old Zimbabwean driver was arrested and charged with Conveyance of Illegal Immigrants under Section 7(1)(g), read with Section 50(3), Regulation 39(4). A hefty fine of R1,140,000 was imposed.
This operation highlights the effectiveness of collaborative efforts in strengthening border security and curbing illegal immigration.
