
In a deeply disturbing incident, a 19-month-old baby girl was raped in Lusaka village, Ritavi, Mopani District, Limpopo, in the early hours of Saturday, July 5, 2025.
According to police reports, the infant’s aunt, a 44-year-old woman, was sleeping with her daughter and her niece (the victim) when she was woken by the sound of a garage door closing. She then heard the baby crying and found the child lying in a passage. Upon bringing the infant back to bed, the aunt discovered signs of sexual assault.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where medical staff confirmed the rape. The suspect, described only as an African male, remains unidentified and at large.
A rape case has been opened at Ritavi Police Station and transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for specialized investigation.
