
A devastating road accident in Limpopo Province claimed the lives of seven people and injured five others on Sunday. The collision, involving seven cars including a minibus, occurred on the N1 highway near Ga-Phasha village. Violet Mathye, a member of the executive council for transport and community safety, urged drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution during the festive season.
In a separate incident, a head-on collision in Eastern Cape Province resulted in 12 fatalities and several injuries. The crash involved a minibus taxi and a pickup truck on the N2 road near Dutywa town.
Unathi Binqose, spokesperson for the Provincial Transport Department, confirmed the tragic loss of life and appealed to motorists to be extra cautious during the festive season.
These incidents bring the total number of fatalities on Eastern Cape roads to 23 from four separate accidents on Saturday alone. Police have opened a culpable homicide case for further investigation.
