The ANCYL in the Norman Mashabane region of Limpopo is holding its Regional Elective Congress at Karibu Leisure Resort in Tzaneen this weekend, and it’s expected to be a predictable affair.
Historically, the youth league hasn’t really had competitive elections – instead, they usually just endorse leaders who support the dominant faction.
In this case, the dominant faction is the one backing Pule Shayi, also known as the “Frelimo” or “Third term” faction. Shayi is reportedly strengthening the Youth League in the region to gain support for the upcoming ANC Regional Congress in December, where he’s hoping to return for a third term.
As for the youth leadership, it’s likely that Renny Mabuza from Markshope will take the chairmanship, while Hendrick Valoi from Phalaborwa will be endorsed as the Secretary of the region.
Meanwhile, the “Straight line” faction, led by Goodman Mtileni, will likely be left out in the cold, with no representation at the elective Congress.
