The African National Congress (ANC) in the Vhembe Region successfully held its 9th regional conference at the Kalahari Waterfront on Monday morning, despite last-minute legal attempts to halt the gathering.
The conference was delayed after some members filed an urgent application at the Thohoyandou High Court on Sunday, seeking to interdict the event. However, the application was struck off the roll, allowing the conference to proceed.
Tensions leading up to the conference centered around accusations against the outgoing regional secretary, who was alleged to have duplicated Branch General Meeting (BGM) and Branch Annual General Meeting (BAGM) packages for branches not aligned with his faction. It is also reported that some members from his slate fled with the packages after the BGMs, prompting the ANC in Limpopo to intervene.
Despite the disruptions, the majority of branches supported the opposing slate, which allowed the conference to continue. The slate aligned with the outgoing secretary did not register their delegates.
National deployees, through the Secretary-General’s office and the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), facilitated the proceedings, including the registration of delegates.
The newly elected regional leadership is as follows:
Chairperson: Tshitereke Matibe
Deputy Chairperson: Miyelani Chauke
Secretary: Matodzi Ralushai
Deputy Secretary: Dorcus Mboyi
Treasurer: Maemu Fistos Mafela
