
On Monday, November 11, 2024, a joint operation between Northam SAPS, Koedoeskop Rural Safety, and private security resulted in the arrest of two foreign national male suspects, aged 25 and 31, for possession of illicit cigarettes.
Acting on intelligence, authorities intercepted a white truck with Gauteng registrations suspected of smuggling cigarettes from Zimbabwe to Gauteng via Northam.
A search of the truck revealed a fake compartment containing 170 boxes of illicit Remington Gold cigarettes valued at R1.1 million.
The suspects will face charges of possession of illicit cigarettes at Northam Magistrate’s Court.
