
Liam Ngobeni is a young Poet who hails from Nkuri (Zamani) outside Giyani. Liam is known as Jaha ra Mutsonga and brings Xitsonga poetry to life in Limpopo, with Mugaza Foundation he promotes cultural activities and empowers youth from local communities.
This young Xitsonga is fast becoming a household name on the Limpopo’s stages. He has become a popular poet at events across Limpopo province.
Liam first started reciting poetry at church and school events few years ago. A friend invited him to a cultural camp in Mpumalanga where they received instruction on the beauty of different cultures.
“At the camp, I was able to discover myself as an artist promoting the Tsonga language,” he said.
Ngobeni has founded Mugaza Foundation to promote cultural activities and also help youngsters with extra-mural activities such as modelling and acting.
Recently, together with his friends, they hosted an event at Zamani Community Library focussing on poetry and modelling.
“The event was a success; the youth showed a great interest, and we are planning to host another event after the final exams. Events such as these are very important in this area because there is not much entertainment for young people. It helps them to focus on positive things,” he concluded.
