Mlungisi Majazi Maseko, a 41-year-old resident of Mooiplaas village in the Chief Albert Luthuli local municipality, Mpumalanga, has become a hero to his community by providing a vital service that the municipality had failed to deliver for years.
Using R1.3 million from his Road Accident Fund (RAF) payout, Maseko invested in a water supply project, purchasing tanks, pipes, and equipment to bring water directly to the doors of 105 households. For 15 years, these families had been forced to travel 5km to access water.
Maseko’s generosity stems from his own experiences of community support. After being involved in an accident in 2018, he received financial assistance from the RAF. Inspired by the kindness of community members who had supported him during his childhood, particularly after his stepfather’s passing, Maseko wanted to give back.
He recognized the struggle of fetching water from a distant mountain stream and decided to channel his resources into a solution. The community is grateful for Maseko’s selfless act.
