In a swift display of justice, the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court sentenced 44-year-old Molemi Makwale Tema to life imprisonment on Thursday, 26 June 2025 — less than two months after he committed a brutal rape in Seleteng village, Ga-Mphahlele.
The incident took place between 18 and 19 May 2025. The 49-year-old victim was walking from her parents’ home in Dithabaneng to Mashite village when she accepted a lift from an unknown vehicle. She was dropped off at Seleteng village, where she waited for another ride. As it got dark around 21:00 during loadshedding, a man approached her, greeted her, and then pulled out a knife.
He forced her to walk with him to an area near a tavern, where he raped her at knifepoint. He then took her to a nearby house and continued to rape her multiple times throughout the night. The following morning, the suspect released her, and she immediately reported the crime to the police.
The case was assigned to Sergeant Mokgadi Sara Mokoena of the Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit. Through her dedication and thorough investigation, the suspect was arrested and successfully brought to justice in record time.
Tema will now spend the rest of his life behind bars for the horrific crime.
