Maria Nyathi’s family is struggling to cope after their home was destroyed by a severe storm on October 27 last year. Her daughter, Veronica Makhubele, a grade 10 learner, is finding it difficult to study due to the squalid conditions they are forced to endure.
“We relied on food parcels from a pastor in Phalaborwa, but the municipality has neglected us despite our pleas for help,” Veronica said.
“What’s even more disheartening is that we voted for the ANC on 29 May 2024 general elections, hoping for better living conditions. However, it seems our municipality is biased, as they have assisted other families who experienced similar situations.”
The family is appealing to any good Samaritans to help them with a low-cost house or for the municipality to intervene and provide them with an RDP house.
