
A massive bust was made at the Beitbridge Port of Entry on Saturday, 18 January 2025, when a 44-year-old foreign national was arrested for smuggling illicit cigarettes worth over R14 million.
The suspect was driving a white truck with a tanker trailer, which he claimed was empty, but police suspected otherwise. Upon searching the vehicle, they found 710 boxes of Remington Gold illicit cigarettes, valued at R14.449.363.00, and a truck tanker worth R2.500.000.
The suspect was arrested on the spot and is expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate Court soon, facing charges of smuggling illicit cigarettes.
