Giyani Section D1( 23.30939° S, 30.69914° E ) is facing growing concerns as a sinkhole in the middle of the road continues to leak water and expand, causing major disruptions for residents and motorists. The issue, which has remained unresolved for over three months, has been linked to negligence by workers from the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) under the management of the Greater Giyani Municipality (GGM).
Residents have voiced their frustration, highlighting how the situation has escalated beyond the sinkhole. Some surrounding areas in Giyani has transformed into a dumping site with uncollected waste spilling from municipal bins. The neglect of the waste management not entering in yards to collect bins for trash disposals – it has now forced locals to go and dispose of trash alongside government bins and other areas. This is worsening the environmental and health hazards in the area.
Ndlovu a resident in the area remarked that the sinkhole in D1 is a danger to their children and vehicles. “Other areas have a bad smell from dumped trash and making it even worse ” Added Ndlovu
The municipality has yet to issue a formal response despite multiple complaints from residents. Meanwhile, the sinkhole continues to grow in size, threatening the stability of nearby infrastructure and raising safety concerns for pedestrians.
As residents await a resolution, the deteriorating conditions in Giyani Section (D1 23.30939° S, 30.69914° E) stand as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability and timely service delivery.
