On 25 April 2025, Ingoboco Cultural Group Presents hosted an event at Tshwane University of Technology’s Main Campus called Hlangana Zulu. The event was aimed at bringing together all Zulu students and community members to showcase their traditional customs, rituals, and cultural expressions, emphasising the importance of preserving cultural heritage while promoting unity and social bonding.
Amukelani Mookamedi shared his thoughts, saying: “It was a wonderful event. Today, I learned that unity is key. When they say ‘someone’s got my back,’ they must be talking about this tribe because the way everyone showed up, you’d swear we had been preparing for months, even though it was organised at short notice.”
Ayanda Khoza also reflected on the experience: “The event was an incredible experience. I would like to thank everyone who worked hard to make it happen. It was great to see our people come together like this. We learned so much today, things we didn’t know, even though we share the same culture, because we come from different places where we didn’t always get the chance to practice some of these traditions. Forward we go, Zulu Nation!”
Lucky Nxumalo, one of the organizers, added: “We organized this event to foster unity among our people. Even though we are in different companies and spaces, by meeting and practicing our culture together, we help ensure that our people never forget their roots and beliefs. We also want to encourage everyone to be proud of their culture and to embrace it fully. We look forward to hosting many more events like this to keep our people entertained and connected.”
Hlangana Zulu truly fostered a sense of unity, as loved ones and community members gathered to celebrate and reconnect through culture. It strengthened social bonds, reinforced cultural values, and stood as a testament to the power of tradition and love. By embracing their heritage, participants not only honored their ancestors but also built a lasting legacy for future generations.
