Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has responded sharply to comments made by South African politician Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi during a public lecture in Malawi. According to Bushiri, Dr. Ndlozi questioned why the prophet is wealthy, something Bushiri says came as a surprise.
“I was astonished to hear that Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi attended a public lecture in Malawi and asked, ‘Why am I rich?’ Seriously, why? How did I even come into your public political lecture?” said Bushiri.
The prophet accused Ndlozi of being jealous and having xenophobic tendencies. He believes he is being unfairly targeted both in South Africa and now in his home country, Malawi.
“You can’t bully me in South Africa and expect to do the same here at home. You can’t advise Malawians to ask me questions about my wealth; they’re not naive,” he said.
Bushiri also took a swipe at Ndlozi’s political alliances, suggesting that his actions amount to betrayal of his ally, Julius Malema. He urged Ndlozi to focus on politics instead of dragging his name into public debates.
In defense of his wealth, Bushiri claimed that his success comes from helping the poor and creating jobs. “This past year alone, I created over 5,000 jobs at my farms and the Goshen City project,” he stated.
The exchange has sparked renewed debate about the role of religious figures in business and politics, as well as ongoing tensions between Bushiri and some South African politicians.
