
Limpopo police have arrested a 44-year-old Zimbabwean national at the Beitbridge Port of Entry on Thursday, 20 March 2025, for attempting to smuggle illicit cigarettes valued at R2,139,000.
The suspect was intercepted during a routine search at the South Gate while entering South Africa. He was driving a freight liner truck with Gauteng registration and had declared it empty. However, a thorough inspection revealed 460 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes hidden behind pallets.
The suspect was detained at SAPS Musina and charged with smuggling illicit cigarettes. He is set to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 March 2025.
