The long-awaited public library in Praktiseer, Fetakgomo Tubatse, is now 95% complete. This milestone means that nearly R15 million of the municipal infrastructure grant has already been utilized, with the project set to be completed soon.
This will be the first state-of-the-art library in Tubatse, a major step forward in improving access to educational resources. Despite being a college town and administrative hub since the apartheid era, Praktiseer has never had a community library. The only existing small library in the area is on the campus of Dr. CN Phatudi Further Education and Training College.
The lack of libraries has long been a challenge for local students, especially matriculants struggling with English and Mathematics. The new library will provide access to prescribed books, study materials, and a conducive learning environment, helping students improve their academic performance.
Beyond education, libraries play a crucial role in community development. They inspire learning, offer a safe space for young people, and help prevent youth from engaging in crime and substance abuse. A nation that reads is a nation that grows, and public facilities like this one are essential in shaping the future of the country.
The construction of the R16 million Praktiseer Library has also provided much-needed employment opportunities. Over 30 local residents were hired during the project, contributing to job creation in the area.
