Foskor played a major role as one of the biggest sponsors of the 2025 Marula Festival, reinforcing its commitment to community engagement. By supporting this cultural celebration, Foskor helps ensure that the people of Phalaborwa can enjoy the festival while strengthening its connection with the local community.
Speaking to Baphalaborwa News and Limpopo Current Affairs, Foskor’s Vice President for Human Capital and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Vincent Matlala, highlighted the company’s role in the region. He emphasized that Foskor is not only the largest employer in Phalaborwa but also deeply embedded in the Ba-Phalaborwa ecosystem. The company is dedicated to uplifting communities through various initiatives, including education and economic diversification.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, Foskor provides bursaries to underprivileged students, enabling them to pursue education and build a better future. One of its latest projects was the construction of Makatikela Primary School in Boelang, which officially opened on 15 January 2025. Previously, the school was located near a river, posing a safety risk to children and the broader community. Foskor resolved this challenge by building a new, safer school and, in collaboration with the Limpopo Department of Education, ensuring it is well-staffed with qualified educators.
Beyond education, Foskor is actively working with the Limpopo Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism Department (LEDET) to diversify Ba-Phalaborwa’s economy. Currently, the region relies heavily on mining and government sectors for employment. Foskor believes that by fostering economic diversification, they can create more job opportunities and drive sustainable development in the community.
Through initiatives like the Marula Festival sponsorship, educational support, and economic development efforts, Foskor continues to play a vital role in the growth and well-being of Phalaborwa and its people.
