Man Arrested After Fatally Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend and Injuring the Deceased’s Three Family Members in Homu 14B Village, Giyani

A 39-year-old man has been arrested after turning himself in to the police following the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend and the stabbing of three of her family members.

The suspect surrendered to authorities on Monday, 24 February 2025, at approximately 15:00 in the Klein Letaba bushes. Police had received a tip-off about his whereabouts, and upon arriving at the scene, they found community members gathered. As soon as the suspect spotted the police, he ran toward them and was immediately taken into custody.

The arrest follows an intensive investigation into the violent attack, which occurred on Sunday, 23 February 2025, at around 20:20 in Homu 14B Village, within the Giyani policing area. According to reports, the suspect arrived at the residence of his former partner, a 26-year-old woman, and waited outside the gate. When he requested water, the victim went to fetch some, but he suddenly attacked her with a beer bottle.

The woman fled into her house, but the suspect pursued her and repeatedly stabbed her. As her family attempted to intervene, the attacker turned on them, injuring three relatives, including the victim’s mother and younger brother, before fleeing the scene.

Emergency services responded to the distress call, but the young woman was declared dead upon their arrival. The three injured victims were rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
