
Two more male suspects, aged 31 and 36, have been apprehended in connection with an armed robbery and attempted murder of an off-duty Warrant Officer. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 14 January 2024, in Mashishing village, within the Jane Furse policing area.
According to the police report, an off-duty police officer stationed in Burgersfort was parking his white Toyota Hilux bakkie outside Mashishing village near Library Gardens when he was ambushed by five armed men. The suspects opened fire, striking him in the upper body. As he attempted to defend himself, he was shot again in the lower body and left unconscious.
The assailants then fled the scene, taking his service pistol, private firearm, and two cellphones. A passerby discovered the wounded officer and promptly called emergency medical personnel, who transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment.
On Friday, 21 February 2025, at midday, members of the Nebo Jane Furse tracking team, along with the Detective Commander, received a tip-off regarding the suspects’ whereabouts. Acting on this intelligence, the team conducted an operation in Springs, Gauteng Province, leading to the arrest of the first suspect.
Further investigations guided the officers to Pretoria, where they apprehended the second suspect. During the interrogation, the suspect directed law enforcement to Madibong village in Jane Furse, Limpopo Province, where he revealed the location of a hidden firearm at his residence. The firearm’s serial number had been filed off and will be subjected to ballistic testing.
Earlier, on Wednesday, 29 January 2025, an operation conducted in the early hours led to the arrest of a 26-year-old male suspect in Madibong village under the Jane Furse precinct. The suspect voluntarily surrendered a firearm and ammunition stolen during the attack.
