A heartwarming moment of joy and relief was experienced by Rebecca Mphahlele, a 58-year-old mother of two from Ga-Mphahlele village, when she received a wheelchair donation for her 40-year-old son, Mohau. Mohau was born with cerebral palsy in 1984 and has been unable to walk or speak since birth.
Rebecca’s journey as a caregiver has been marked by immense challenges, including financial struggles and the emotional toll of caring for a child with a rare illness. Despite her efforts to seek medical attention, Rebecca was forced to give up hope due to the high costs of transportation.
However, thanks to the kindness of Pastor Nareamohlala Khuto of Salvation Church and Thomo Nkgadima, a philanthropist, Mohau’s life has taken a significant turn for the better. The donation of a manual lightweight wheelchair has given Mohau the freedom to move around and experience the world outside his home.
Rebecca was overwhelmed with emotion as she expressed her gratitude for the donation. “I feel very excited for the grace and mercy of God,” she said. “He is heavy to carry around, and I have endured so much pain and suffering over the years. But now, I can take him to church, to the shops, or just sit with him under the tree on a hot day.”
Mohau’s younger sister, Rethabile, a nurse at Tooseng clinic, has been a pillar of support for the family. The family’s caregiver can be contacted on 073 342 7524/072 749 5935 for those who wish to offer further assistance.
