The Border Management Authority (BMA) has made a significant breakthrough by intercepting a German national on Interpol’s most-wanted list at OR Tambo International Airport on November 15, 2024.
This achievement showcases the effectiveness of South Africa’s integrated border management strategy, particularly after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Interpol.
The suspect was initially caught in Turkey with a fraudulent Israeli passport and was returned to South Africa on November 8, 2024. Further investigation revealed the suspect’s German accent, contradicting claims of being Israeli.
Verification with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation and Interpol confirmed the suspect’s true identity and their presence on the red list.
The BMA’s vigilance and collaboration with international agencies have protected South Africa’s security and integrity. This apprehension serves as a warning that the country’s ports are secure against those seeking to exploit them for illegal activities.
The Authority urges all travelers to comply with immigration laws and security protocols to ensure smooth movement across all 71 ports of entry.
