
In a successful joint intelligence-driven operation, police in Vhembe District apprehended a 30-year-old male suspect for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in the Thohoyandou policing area.
On Wednesday, 16 July 2025, at approximately 09:00, the victim’s mother was summoned by the school principal, who reported that her daughter was unwell. The mother promptly took her daughter to a clinic, where a medical examination revealed that the 14-year-old was pregnant. When questioned by her mother, the victim provided a description of the suspect and details about his location.
Following the report, a rape case was opened, and the Provincial Intervention Team, in collaboration with the Thohoyandou Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) unit, launched a manhunt. On Tuesday, 22 July 2025, the suspect was arrested in Tshitereke village.
The 30-year-old suspect is set to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of raping a minor.
