
Three suspects, including a close family member, have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 64-year-old nurse Morudi Frank Phetla from Jane Furse. The suspects, aged 42, 49, and 60, are expected to appear in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 07 May 2025.
They face charges of kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder, and murder.
The arrests follow a joint operation on Monday, 05 May 2025, led by the Jane Furse Tracking Team and the Provincial Organised Crime Unit. Acting on intelligence, police arrested a 49-year-old woman in Kempton Park and a 42-year-old man in Tembisa. The team later arrested a 60-year-old woman in Jane Furse.
The case relates to an incident on 16 March 2025, when Mr. Phetla was kidnapped outside his home in the Zamane Section at around 19:00. His vehicle was later found idling with headlights on, but he was missing.
Tragically, his body was discovered the next morning under the Mabintana Bridge by a shepherd. He had suffered fatal head injuries.
The motive for the murder is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
