A 54-year-old man has been arrested after police discovered sheep carcasses believed to be stolen at his home in Speaker Park Phase 2, Alldays. The arrest was made by the Musina Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit on Saturday, 19 April 2025, at around 11:45.
The case began when the owner of a nearby farm left his shepherd in charge on Thursday, 10 April. On 19 April, the shepherd informed the owner that 45 sheep had gone missing from the kraal. The matter was reported to the police at Alldays SAPS.
Police, together with the farm owner, launched a search and managed to recover 34 of the missing sheep several kilometers from the farm. During the search, they also found disturbing evidence – two sheep carcasses, four sheep heads, intestines, legs, and five sheepskins hanging from a tree.
Eleven sheep are still missing.
Acting on a tip-off, police followed up and searched a house in Speaker Park Phase 2. There, they discovered two more sheep carcasses. The homeowner could not provide proof of ownership and was arrested on the spot.
He is expected to appear before the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, facing charges of stock theft.
Anyone with information that could help track down other suspects is urged to contact Sergeant Jack Mokhwa of the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit at 071 612 1076.
