Three employees of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) have been arrested at the agency’s offices on De Villiers Street in the Johannesburg CBD.
The workers are allegedly linked to a massive fraud scheme involving over R260 million stolen from beneficiaries using ghost SASSA cards. Authorities believe the suspects were part of a syndicate that siphoned funds meant for vulnerable citizens.
Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected as law enforcement cracks down on corruption within the social grants system.
