
Lulekani police have launched an inquest following the discovery of human remains in the crocodile and hippopotamus infested Letaba River in Selwane. The body has been positively identified as that of a 36-year-old man who was reported missing.
The grim discovery was made on Wednesday, 19 February 2025, at approximately 13:00, when community members noticed clothing floating in the river and immediately alerted the police.
Responding swiftly, police officers, with the assistance of local residents, retrieved human body parts from the river. An identification document (ID) was found at the scene, matching the name of the missing man.
Authorities have withheld the victim’s identity pending further investigations. The police urge residents to exercise caution near the river and report any suspicious findings.
