
Jerry Butibuti Khoza, a 38-year-old man, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for murdering his 32-year-old wife. The Polokwane High Court handed down the sentence on 23 January 2025, and also declared Khoza unfit to possess a firearm.
The incident occurred on 7 March 2024, at Khoza’s residence in Dan Village, Extension 2, Tzaneen. According to reports, Khoza stabbed his wife multiple times in the neck with a self-made knife following a heated argument. The couple was separated at the time, and the wife had visited Khoza’s residence to collect child support money.
After the incident, Khoza attempted to take his own life by consuming a poisonous substance but was rescued by paramedics and taken to the hospital.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Detective Constable Amukelani Rikhotso led the investigation, which ultimately led to Khoza’s conviction and sentencing.
