The family, comprising two young women, Dipolelo (22) and Karabo (19), and their 17-year-old brother, Thoriso, will soon have a new home to call their own.
The family’s current living situation is dire, with their dilapidated block brick house leaking and on the verge of collapse. They have been relying on their foster care social grant to survive, using it to buy basic necessities like food, clothes, and water.
Despite their struggles, Dipolelo, who recently wrote her matric exams at Moukangoe Secondary School, remains optimistic. She expressed her gratitude to their neighbours, who allowed her to study and prepare for her exams in their homes.
The family’s plea for assistance on social media has yielded a positive response. A generous donor has come forward to build a low-cost house for the family, which will help restore their dignity and provide a safe and secure living environment.
A sod-turning ceremony to mark the beginning of the construction project is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 7 January 2025. Dipolelo acknowledged the efforts of Eskom, which has been aware of their situation and has been sending them SMS messages with a reference number since April last year, although nothing has materialised yet.
