Limpopo Department of Art and Culture is at it again, causing controversy by allegedly marginalising Dr. Thomas Hasani Chauke from performing at the Mapungubwe Art and Culture festival.
This isn’t the first time Dr. Chauke has faced issues with the festival organisers. In 2019, he was involved in a similar incident, which led to former Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha apologising for the ill-treatment of Dr. Chauke.
Thembani Maswanganyi, President of Khindlimuka Heritage Foundation, has spoken out against the festival organisers, accusing them of tribalism and nepotism. Maswanganyi claims that the Vatsonga-speaking people are being marginalised and excluded from opportunities in government and public service.
It’s clear that there are deeper issues at play here, and it’s not just about Dr. Chauke’s performance. The allegations of tribalism and nepotism are serious and deserve attention.
As Maswanganyi said, “Khindlimuka has lost a relationship of trust and reliability from some self-confessed High Profiles who are in the business of blowing their own trumpet while we work tirelessly to fight for Vatsonga who are so ignorant and too submissive to Limpopo abusive leadership.”
