
A 28-year-old man, Tshepo Jan Malatji, from Sebayeng village in Turfloop, has been sentenced to 10 years of direct imprisonment for the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Ga-Sekgopo village.
The incident occurred on April 9, 2020, at around 6:00 pm, when the victim was attacked and dragged to a river while returning from a spaza shop.
The suspect, who was identified by the victim’s mother based on her daughter’s description, was arrested and later linked to the crime through DNA evidence. Malatji admitted to the crime and pleaded guilty on September 11, 2024, at the Tzaneen Regional Court, leading to his sentencing.
