The Giyani Regional Court has on Monday, 08 September 2025, sentenced 31-year-old Mr. Maboti Valoyi to 15 years direct imprisonment for the murder of 56-year-old Mr. Eddy Ritshuri.
The court found that on 28 January 2024, at around 23:00, Valoyi confronted Ritshuri, who was with a woman believed to be his girlfriend. During the altercation, Valoyi took the woman away and threatened her. Ritshuri tried to intervene but was fatally stabbed with a sharp object by the accused.
The victim collapsed near a tavern and a church in Dengeza A village. He was rushed to a nearby clinic by community members but sadly died upon arrival.
Police at Giyani SAPS opened a murder case, and Detective Sergeant Tshamiseka Jeffrey Maluleke arrested Valoyi the following day. Despite initially being denied bail, he was released in July 2024. On 20 August 2025, the court found him guilty and forfeited his bail.
He has now begun serving a 15-year sentence.
